Prescription drug addiction

Knowing what medications my clients are on is a part of my practice, as occasionally a prescription can merit a change in bodywork.  Managing their prescriptions is well beyond my scope of practice.  I did find the following article fascinating, though, as a comment on a serious health and wellness issue that is going on in our country.

A new look for calm by leslie

Where did June go? It's all a blur.  I was so busy with the end of the school year, graduations, and family that I didn't have time to make a new blog post.  Was your June busy?  Do you find that certain months are busier than others?

You may notice things look a bit different around here. I'm working on a new "feel" for calm by leslie. My lovely new practice space in Bellevue is bringing me much happiness, especially since I've been free to decorate it exactly as I like.  And one thing I like is warmth...warm, inviting colors that feel cozy, homey, and relaxing.  Though I always received plenty of compliments on the cool lavender colors on the old design, I didn't feel they properly matched my personality and what I bring to my practice. (A wise friend pointed this out to me...funny how sometimes it takes someone else to tell you what you already know.)

Let me know your thoughts on the new look. Change is often hard, so you might need to give it some time.  But if you know me, you know that cool and austere isn't what you get.  Do you feel this new website look is a better match?

Happy 4th of July!

Amazing Yoga Video

I've really been enjoying my local yoga class.  Yoga is one of the best ways I know to help people stay calm in the midst of chaos.  If I could have all of my clients drink enough water and do yoga...well, I'd be out of business wouldn't I?  :-)

Check out this amazing video of Seattle's Theresa Elliott of Taj Yoga doing a vinyasa sequence:

Do You Lack Discipline?

Well, welcome to the club!  We all lack discipline in one way or another, right?  Whether it's to exercise, to practice meditation, or to avoid french fries, we all feel we come up short in this department.  I loved this article I found on ZenHabits.net which speaks to this challenge:

6 Small Things You Can Do When You Lack Discipline
Post written by Leo Babauta
One of the biggest problems people face is the lack of discipline — they have goals or habits they want to achieve, but lack that discipline needed to stick with it.
Then we beat ourselves up about it. We feel crappy because we can’t stick with it.
And that leads to more failure, because we’re forming a mindset that we don’t have the necessary discipline.
Here’s what to do when you face a situation like this: [click here to read the rest of the article]
