Flip-Flops Bad for You?

An interesting piece in the New York Times on your favorite summer shoe:

Flip-flops are a mainstay of summertime footwear, but they can be painfully bad for your feet and legs, new research shows.

Researchers from Auburn University in Alabama studied the biomechanics of the flip-flop and determined that wearing thong-style flip-flops can result in sore feet, ankles and legs.

“We found that when people walk in flip-flops, they alter their gait, which can result in problems and pain from the foot up into the hips and lower back,'’ said Justin Shroyer, a biomechanics doctoral student who presented the findings to the recent annual meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine in Indianapolis...

Cobblestone Walkways on Sale at Fitter.com

As I've mentioned on this site before, cobblestone walkways or reflexology paths are a great way to stimulate the reflex points on your feet and do a little "self-reflexology".  Fitter.com is having a sale right now on their cobblestone footpaths.  These are great because you can use them in the house, and roll them up when you're done.

Here's the email I just received:

Save 25% on Cobblestone Walkway*
Walk your way to better health at an even better price!

Cobblestone walking is an ancient health enhancing practice that has been known in China for thousands of years. Recent research from the Oregon Research Institute (ORI) has confirmed that reduced blood pressure and better balance can be achieved by simply taking a daily barefoot walk on the Cobblestone Walkway.

Perfect for home or office, cobblestone mat walking is an effective, therapeutic, health-enhancing exercise alternative.

Dry Your Feet!

As a reflexologist, I get to see a lot of people's feet up close.  It's not uncommon to encounter a client who is struggling with a case of tinea pedis, more commonly known as "athlete's foot".

Athlete's foot is a fungal infection, is quite contagious, and can be tricky to get rid of.  But here's a tip to help manage it, and to possibly prevent it.  Blow-dry your feet!

This fungus loves a warm, moist, dark environment.  When you shower...do you take the time to carefully dry your feet, getting in between the toes so they're nice and dry?  Chances are you don't.  So when it's time to dry your hair:  get your feet, too!  Blow-dry nice hot air in between your toes and all over the sole of your foot.  Don't forget the tops!  That helps make sure your foot is completely dry, and tells the fungus to take a hike.

calm by leslie 2007 aromatherapy tour

Greetings from snowy Denver, Colorado!  I'm just packing up to head home from what has been an amazing 11 days.  Last weekend I was in Chicago, IL studying with Kurt Schnaubelt and Monika Haas of the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy.  The 3-Day seminar was called "Survival and Serenity" and provided a wealth of information about how using quality essential oils in and on your person can address many different health and wellness issues.

After four days visiting family in the Chicago area, I hopped a plane to Denver where I attended the Alliance of International Aromatherapists' "International Clinical Aromatherapy Conference and Wellness Expo".  (Phew, that was a mouthful.)  This was an extraordinary weekend where some huge names in aromatherapy, including Robert Tisserand and Dr. Daniel Pénoël, came and shared their research, passion, and ideas about essential oils and aromatherapy with the conference attendees.

I am now more passionate and excited than ever about my aromatherapy practice.  I now know for a fact that essential oils are an extraordinary powerful and potent means to better health.  In order to share this passion with as many of you as I can, I am ready to make an extraordinary offer:

Now through December 31, 2007, receive 50% off an Aromatherapy Consultation or an Aromatic Reflexology session.  (Limit one per customer.  Appointment must be booked and must take place on or before December 31, 2007.  Offer applies only to standard session and its usual content and not to aromatherapy products which fall outside of this description.  Please contact Leslie with any questions.)

I hope you'll take advantage of this great opportunity to experience true aromatherapy.  I think you'll find it really helpful.

Last Month to Save on Reflexology!

I hope you are all enjoying your summer.  I, for one, have been very busy with travel and with finishing up both reflexology and aromatherapy school.  I can't wait to share the wonderful skills I have learned in these wonderful mastery certification programs.  Stay tuned to calm by leslie for some big changes happening in September.  Here's a hint:

More services and more table-time to make your sessions even more relaxing and beneficial!

Beginning Sept. 12th, 2007, reflexology sessions will no longer be offered at the student rate, but will be commesurate with my other massage rates.  I hope you'll use this time to schedule a reflexology session for yourself, or perhaps stock up on a few gift certificates for yourself or friends to use at a later date?* Or perhaps you've been meaning to give reflexology a try:  you won't find a better rate to sample this deeply relaxing modality.

As always, please feel free to call or email for an appointment, or use my online scheduler at your convenience.  Here's hoping the remainder of your summer is calm.

Bees Knees and Happy Feet!

Thanks to Tastingmenu.com for the shout out this week. I've been seeing lots of new faces here thanks to Hillel and his kind words about my cute little bee cake.  Thanks for visiting, folks!

Just found this great interactive foot reflexology map through Barbara and Kevin Kunz's reflexology website.
Check it out!  You can click on the various reflex areas of the foot and see which parts of the body they correspond to.  The more I work in this modality, the more delighted I am with the results I see in my clients (and in myself...I receive reflexology once a week!)  Why not book an appointment and try it out?
